Koroit Primary School

One of the old schools (the common school is even older) that is still going strong. The school includes Eccles House and the former Court House. More images can be seen by clicking the link to my flickr photos under the image.

The former Shire Office in Koroit - they are now the library. I love the clouds in this - it was a funny day and overcast mainly but it seems the sun shines of local government.

Tower Hill Geology

The ash layers at tower hill (between Warrnambool and Koroit) are of international geological significance. My Mum is from a farm near Tower Hill but I never grow tired of this little volanco (perched maar).

My family has been going to this church for generations. I have had a couple of funerals in the past few weeks that inspired me to go back with the camera and take piccies. Now I just need to relate some of these to John Collins images.

Hepburn and Melbourne in one weekend

Last weekend I did a mini photographic odessy. Book launch at the Pavilion,

the Gervasoni ruins,

the Berry Consolidated mine

and then down to Melbourne to the Boroondara Cemetery

and skipping girl.

Growing up we used to index cemeteries with my Mum. I find them fascinating but Kew is my favourite by far for the quality of headstones. Tower Hill, Eganstown (Catholic) and Sandon are favourites for family connection and Franklinford for a fantastic setting.

Port Campbell, Warrnambool and Port Fairy

Over the Labour Day Long weekend I went to Port Campbell and Port Fairy.

Sights included the carved bullock and shipwreck items in Port Campbell.

Boroondara General Cemetery Kew

Boroondara General Cemetery is located in Kew, Victoria. The cemetery is known for the range of important Australia's buried there as well as the artistic quality of its memorials - some of which have been included on the Victorian Heritage Register.

Sturt Street Gardens - Ballarat

The Sturt Street Gardens are located in Ballarat, Victoria (Australia). The gardens area a central median of the main thoroughfare of Ballarat, Sturt Street. The gardens run for 13 blocks and contain significant statues, bandstands, memorials and trees.

I used to work opposite the gardens and enjoyed taking images on a different angle than the norm.

Whale Boats racing and fire

Sunday 22 February 2010 was an interesting day in Warrnambool. The Australian National Whale Boat Championships were held on the Hopkins River and a fire started at the Criterion Hotel in Kepler Street.

Photographing Australia's Heritage

For the past few years I have been working on documenting Australia's towns to create a visual resource for the future. I often rely on the work of John T Collins or the Rose and Valentine post card series for images of our past. I look to update the photographic recording of Australian places and events and upload a selection to the National Library of Australia's Pictureaustralia project.

This image was taken on Saturday 20 February at Locarno Spring in the Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve Hepburn Springs.
